THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As heavy rains lashed a number of components of Kerala, the India Meteorological Division (IMD) on Sunday issued an orange alert in 5 districts within the state for the day.
The IMD, at 3pm, issued an orange alert for the day within the districts of Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.
It additionally issued an orange alert within the above 5 districts and Malappuram for Monday and in 9 out of the 14 districts of the state for Tuesday.
A crimson alert signifies heavy to extraordinarily heavy rains of over 20 cm in 24 hours, whereas orange alert means very heavy rains from 6 cm to twenty cm of rain. A yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 6 and 11 cm.
The IMD additionally stated robust winds with a pace of 40 to 50 kmph and occasional gusts of as much as 60 kmph are probably alongside the Kerala-Lakshadweep-Karnataka coasts until July 7 and fishermen have been suggested to not exit to sea.
